This method is applicable for the determination of particulate emissions from stationary sources. Particulate matter is withdrawn isokinetically from the source and collected on a glass fiber filter maintained at a temperature in the range of 120±14°C (248±25°F) or such other temperature as specified by an applicable subpart of the standards or approved by Administrator, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, for a particular application. The particulate mass, which includes any material that condenses at or above the filtration temperature, is determined gravimetrically after removal or uncombined water.

The Millennium Instruments Mill-5 control console is a versatile user-friendly instrument designed for the performance of US EPA reference method testing. The control console when properly outfitted will perform methods 4, 5, 6, 8, 8A, 5I, 17, 23, 29, or any method requiring an isokinetic sample rate. The
construction incorporates easy to read analog/digital gauges. Solid-state circuitry is used in all electronic components. The chassis is split into two sections, the control console and the pump housing, which can be easily joined, or separated for shipping/handling. The Mill-5 has been designed to be compatible with most brands of testing equipment.

The Mill 5 Sample Console consists of a heated filter unit, an ice bucket, and the ““hibb”” to connect to the two units together. The heated filter unit comes complete with a probe arm support, probe heater receptacle, auxiliary power receptacle, and standard umbilical connector. The max continuous temperature is 300° F and is maintained by the Mill-5 control console via an umbilical. The ice bucket is thermally insulated and comes with a bracket to
support the impinger outlet. The “hibb” is used to support and connect the heated filter unit to the ice bucket. The bottom plate of the “hibb” is used to support miscellaneous items such as re-circulation pumps, sample pumps, heated sample line controllers, and many other ancillary testing items. The heated filter box has been designed to be compatible with most
brands of testing equipment.

The Probe Support Arm can be conveniently removed androtated providing top or side access to the heated area.
